PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) and redshirt freshman Mark Robertson (Lakewood, N.J.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the period ending Nov. 8.
Edwards helped the women's volleyball team to straight-set wins over Coppin State and Howard to complete MEAC play with a 10-0 record. The Hawks (21-6) extended their winning streak to 12.
The 5-foot-10 outside hitter tallied 22 kills in the two matches, including a match-high 12 against the Bison. She hit .395 for the week with 11 aces, five digs and two assists.
UMES faces North Carolina Central Saturday (Nov. 14) at 4:30 for Senior Day.
Robertson, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward on the men's basketball team, led the Hawks to an exhibition win over Division III Stevenson, 91-38, Saturday. He had a game-high 22 points with 17 in the second half. He was 9-for-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range with five steals, a rebound and an assist.
UMES opens the regular season at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center Friday against Stony Brook at 7 p.m.
