PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore Cassandra Carlos (Norwalk, Calif.) and senior James Moore (Manassas, Va.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Athletes of the Week for the period ending April 19.
Carlos, a utility player and leadoff hitter on the softball team helped lead the Lady Hawks to a 3-2 mark for the week, including two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference wins over Hampton.
She hit .467 (7-for-15), had a double, triple, two steals and two RBIs overall and boasted a .555 average against the Pirates.
UMES (16-12, 3-3 MEAC) faces Norfolk State in a doubleheader at home Wednesday. Moore, a field athlete of the track and field team, set a school record and qualified for NCAA East Regional in the high jump with a leap of 2.10 meters.
He will compete in the event slated for May 29-30 at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
The UMES track and field teams are back in action at the Penn Relays April 23-25 at Franklin Field.
