PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Junior Kevin White (Brooklyn, N.Y.) needed five assists to break Jesse Brooks' single season assist record for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and he recorded seven in the Hawks' 62-56 win over Bethune-Cookman Monday night in front of 2,479 at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center.

Brooks' record of 142 assists was accomplished in the 2005-06 campaign and White had 138 coming into tonight's contest. White also scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds while registering two steals.

Junior Josh Bright (Salisbury, Md.) led the Hawks in scoring with 12 points, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc and also had five rebounds and four assists. Redshirt sophomore Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.) also scored in double-digits with 10 points while senior Neal Pitt (Fort Washington, Md.) led the game with seven rebounds.

With the win, UMES improves to 8-18 on the season and gets back to the .500 mark at 6-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Wildcats fall to 14-12 overall and 6-6 in MEAC play.

The game was a back-and-forth affair as the score was tied three times and the lead changed nine times.

Bright started the game with his first 3-pointer just two minutes into the game. Just over two minutes later, Haley hit his own trey to put the Hawks up, 8-6.

BCU would then take the lead for the next five minutes and go up by five and not relinquish it until the 8:31 mark with another 3-pointer for UMES, this time by redshirt freshman Mark Robertson (Lakewood, N.J.).

Within the last two minutes of the half, the Wildcats put up two shots from downtown while the Hawks responded with three of their own, including an exclamation mark from Bright with time expiring to put UMES up, 37-29.

The 3-point game continued as the White and junior Tim Burns (Franklinville, N.J.) immediately put two up coming out of halftime to keep the Hawks lead at 43-36.

BCU would cut the lead down to one numerous times before taking it back at 52-51 with 8:11 remaining with a basket by Javoris Bryant.

The Hawks immediately bounced back with a trey from Robertson to go up 54-52.

A layup by the Wildcats' CJ Reed with 2:41 remaining tied the game at 56-56. The arena exploded with a Haley 3-pointer about 30 seconds later for UMES to take the lead for good. Reed's basket would be the last of the game for BCU.

The Hawks put the nail in the coffin with a layup by Burns and a free throw by Bright to make the final score 62-56.

BCU's Reed led the game in scoring with 19 points while Alexander Starling had 14 for the Wildcats.

UMES continues their four-game home stand with a Homecoming day matchup against the Coppin State Eagles on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center.
