VOTING FOR MISS MEAC NOW OPEN AT MEACHOOPS.COM

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The fourth annual Miss Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition has started with online voting at the conference's official basketball tournament website, www.MEAChoops.com. The Hawk faithful from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) are encouraged to logon and vote for Miss UMES Candace Thomas.

Thomas is one of seven candidates from the conference's 12 schools to be on the final ballot.

The Miss MEAC Competition, held in conjunction with the annual men's and women's MEAC Basketball Tournament, features contestants from MEAC institutions competing against one another for the title of Miss MEAC 2010. Contestants are judged on the strength and depth of their community platform, online voting, and a submitted essay entry. Ultimately, one contestant will be crowned as Miss MEAC 2010 and will be awarded a $1000 scholarship. The runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship.

Students, friends, family and alumni are encouraged to vote online for the Miss MEAC contestant of their choice at www.MEAChoops.com The voting period is open now will conclude on March 10, 2010.

About the MEAC Basketball Tournament

The MEAC Basketball Tournament is a single elimination championship playoff that involves 11 Division I historically black colleges and universities located across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, Delaware State, Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State, and South Carolina State.

The tournament is played at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (LJVM) in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Both the men's and women's tournament champion receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
