BESSEMER, Ala. - Despite some inconsistent performances, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team collected themselves to post a 6-4 record and take second place at the 7th Annual Holiday Collegiate Bowling Classic. Freshman T'Nia Falbo (Greensburg, Pa.) led the way, finishing seventh overall in individual average, posting a 201 over seven team games and tallying 1,407 pins.

Falbo set a career high with a 246 in a win against Stephen F. Austin and went on to post four games over 200, including a 201, 209 and a 202.

She wasn't the only Hawk rolling 200s, as Paula Vilas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) put up a 237, 203 and 215 to finish tenth overall. Anggie Ramirez (Bogota, Colombia) was ninth overall at the event and rolled a 232, 215 and 209. Stacy Parsons (Delran, N.J.) rolled a 228 while Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima, Colombia) tallied a 229 and 216.

The Hawks (93-26) rolled eight total team games, posting a 5-3 mark in those games. They topped no. 18 Florida A&M (907-834), Stephen F. Austin (1015-755), Grambling State (1031-833), Bethune-Cookman (947-765) and no. 17 Sacred Heart (964-949). They opened with a loss to no. 16 Alabama A&M (839-935) and then fell later to no. 1 Vanderbilt (954-1001). On the second day the opened with a loss to no. 5 Central Missouri 943-987 before rebounding for two wins.

Despite the tough team games UMES would earn a high seed into the bracket Baker finals. They would open with a win, avenging the earlier loss toe Vanderbilt, topping them in a four-game Baker set, 766-749. They would then fall to Nebraska 716-769 in the championship match.

UMES will now take a week off to train before heading to the USBC Sectional Qualifier in Allentown, Pa. March 13-14, 2010.
