MCBRIDE NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-MEAC FOR THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Senior April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.) has been named to the All-MEAC First Team for the third consecutive season, the league announced Thursday.

A 6-foot guard/forward, McBride has averaged 18.0 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this season with one game remaining in the regular season. She led the team in 12 statistical categories this season and is in the top-15 in eight in the MEAC.

"It's great for April to recognized by the league as an all-conference performer again," said UMES head coach Fred Batchelor. "She's been a special player for us at UMES and we're looking forward to her leadership in the upcoming MEAC Tournament."

McBride is third in the MEAC in points per game, fourth in rebounding, sixth in steals per game (2.0), seventh in field-goal percentage (46.9), ninth in blocks (0.8) and 11th in the conference in free-throw percentage at 74.4 percent.

She is also fifth and sixth in offensive and defensive rebounding, averaging 3.5 and 5.2 boards per game, respectively.

McBride has led the team in scoring on 18 occasions during the season and has 21 double-figure scoring games as well. She has recorded eight of her 34 career double-double this year.

McBride also tallied her 1,500th career point at Norfolk State on Feb. 6 in a 76-56 victory the Spartans. She is the second-leading scorer in UMES women's basketball history having amassed 1,665 total points.

McBride who was named MEAC Player of the Week after registering a career-high 34 points to help the Lady Hawks defeat Coppin State on Homecoming Feb. 20.

She is joined on the first team by Morgan State's Corin Adams, Howard's Zykia Brown, North Carolina A&T's Ta'Wuana Cook and Hampton's Quanneisha Perry.

Adams, the Preseason MEAC Player of the Year, was named Player the Year, while Perry earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Bethune-Cookman head coach Vanessa Inge was tabbed Coach of the Year.

UMES (10-15, 7-8 MEAC) plays Delaware State at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall Gym Thursday.
