WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore cheerleaders, under the direction of first year head coach Dee Morley-Artis, placed second in the All-Girls Division of the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Cheerleading Championship Monday evening at the Joel Coliseum.
This marks the first time since 2008 that the team has placed, when they were third in the Co-Ed Division. The team placed second in the same division during the 2007 Championships.
The last time the team placed in the All-Girls Division was in 2003, when they also placed second. That same year, they placed third in the Overall Division.
The North Carolina A&T Aggies captured first place honors for the fourth consecutive year, while the Morgan State Bears placed second and the Florida A&M Rattlers finished third in overall team performance.
The Lady Bears also won the All-Girls Division while Hampton took third behind UMES.
The Hawk cheerleaders continue their stay in Winston-Salem, cheering on the Lady Hawk basketball team tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Delaware State and Wednesday at 3 p.m. for the Hawk basketball team as they take on Coppin State.
