PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Coppin State sophomore pitcher Paige Arnold finished a fantastic weekend against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore as she pitched an 8-0 no-hitter Sunday afternoon at Lady Hawks Field.
Arnold would have pitched a perfect game if not for a walk to freshman Nia Mitchell (Landover, Md.) in the bottom of the third inning. Arnold also struck out four in the game.
The Lady Hawks were down just 4-0 going into the fifth inning, before giving up four runs on three errors and just one hit.
With the win, the Lady Eagles move to 20-19 overall and 7-5 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play while UMES falls to 1-30 on the season and 0-12 in the MEAC.
The Lady Hawks finish their season next weekend with a series against Howard. Play begins with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game Sunday, also at 1 p.m.
