PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is just one week from the start of their athletic season, but the Hawks are taking time out to help a great cause when they walk tomorrow in Midway's `Drive Out Breast Cancer' event in support of Women Supporting Women.

The event, sponsored by Midway GM in Pocomoke City, Md. is starting an annual event to raise money, through pledges by individuals and corporate sponsors, to benefit Women Supporting Women.

Women Supporting Women is a local non-profit organization which was founded in 1993 by three area women who started the group out of their homes after discovering the need to help women through their journey with breast cancer. Their mission is to provide awareness, education and support to all those who are affected by breast cancer.

On hand will be the UMES women's volleyball team and staff, UMES coaches, staff members and even Harry T. Hawk, the mascot of Hawk Athletics, all of which will be walking and promoting the fight against cancer.

UMES staffers and athletes will be wearing special event shirts which will be on sale to the public with all proceeds going to Women Supporting Women. The Department of Athletics has also donated a UMES prize pack that will be up for silent auction, which includes a pair of 2010-2011 basketball season tickets, t-shirts, a book bag, souvenirs and children's items.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with registration, with the walk going from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information, to register, be a vendor, or donate, call Josh Nordstrom at Midway GM at 443-614-6021.
