LEA'AETOA, MELEK NAMED UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Freshman Kaveingna Lea'Aetoa (Salt Lake City, Utah) and sophomore Basil Melek (Grand Prairie, Texas) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sept. 19.

Lea'Aetoa, a middle blocker on the women's volleyball team, helped the Hawks to a 2-1 record at the Kristin Dickmann Memorial Tournament, hosted by Navy.

Lea'Aetoa was named to the all-tournament team with a 3.31 kills and 1.08 blocks per game with 14 blocks and seven digs. She hit .315 on the weekend with 43 kills and 15 errors in 89 attacks.

UMES (5-8) is back in action Sept. 24-25 at the NCCU Volleyball Tournament.

Melek, of the cross country team, finished second overall in the men's race, helping UMES to a second-place finish in its own Cappy Anderson Invitational.

The cross country team travels to the Towson Invitational in Hunt Valley, Md., Saturday.
