VICIC, BROWN NAMED PRMC UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Freshman Jessie Vicic (Cambridge, Ontario) and junior Zavior Brown (Middletown, N.Y.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of October 17. This is the first time this season that either student-athlete has received this award.

Vicic led the UMES volleyball team to two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victories this past week as she registered 52 assists, eight digs and three blocks to propel the Hawks to victories over Hampton University and Delaware State University. She had 35 assists, two digs and two blocks in the Hawks' 3-0 victory over Hampton before tallying 27 assists, six digs and one block in UMES' 3-0 victory over Delaware St. The freshman now stands atop the assist leaders in the MEAC with 790 assists, good for an average of 10.39 per set.

Brown was the highest finisher for the UMES men's cross country team at the University of Delaware Invitational this past weekend. The junior provided the best results amongst all MEAC runners as he finished in eighth place with a time of 27:40.64. This marked the second consecutive top-10 finish for Brown, whose finish propelled the men's team to a fifth place finish at the meet.

The UMES volleyball team hits the road for its fifth consecutive road match when they travel to Delaware St. on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Howard University on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. The UMES cross country teams are idle for the upcoming week before competing in the MEAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29.
