COOK, WOODS NAMED PRMC UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Dec. 11, 2011

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Amber Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) and junior Percy Woods (Hyattsville, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 12. This is the second time that Woods has been honored with the award, while Cook receives it for the first time.

Woods led the men's basketball team to a win in their only contest this week. The guard tallied 16 points, 10 assists and five steals to collect a double-double in UMES' 95-69 victory over Mercy College. Woods also grabbed two rebounds while shooting 4-of-6 from three-point range. So far this season, Woods has averaged 10.8 points-per-game and leads the team with 16 steals and 42 assists.

Cook spearheaded the charge for the women's basketball team this week. Although the Lady Hawks dropped both of their contests, Cook paced a balanced attack that saw the women stand tall against two quality opponents. In UMES' 65-60 loss to University of Maryland - Baltimore County, Cook posted eight points, six rebounds and four assists. The senior was also 3-for-4 from long range. Her effort did not stop there as she grabbed nine rebounds and had a team-high 12 points against No. 17/18 Pennsylvania State University.

The men's basketball team will be on the road for its next two games, first traveling to Air Force (Saturday, Dec. 17) before making a slightly closer trip to the University of Virginia (Tuesday, Dec. 27). The women's basketball team looks to get back to their winning ways when they travel to Towson University on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
