COOK, WALSH NAMED PRMC UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior guard Amber Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) and junior sprinter Andre Walsh (St. Catherine, Jamaica) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 16. This is the third time this season that Cook has been distinguished with this award, while Walsh picks up the honor for the first time.

Cook led the women's basketball team to a 69-56 victory over Delaware State University on Saturday afternoon. She posted a career-high 21 points with six rebounds and three steals. The Greensboro, N.C., product was 11-for-11 from the free-throw line, as she guided the women to an 83 percent effort (29-of-35) from the charity stripe in the victory. Cook was 5-for-7 from the field across a team-high 31 minutes. For the season, she leads the team in assists (26) and free-throws made (52) and is second in six others categories.

Walsh posted four IC4A-qualifying performances and four first-place finishes at the Navy Invitational this past weekend. His efforts guided the men to a second-place finish (108 points) at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. Walsh won the men's 60-meter dash preliminary with a time of 6.90 seconds and followed it up with a victory in the 60-meter final (6.88 seconds). He won the 200-meter dash (21.42 seconds), before teaming up with three others to win the 4x400-meter relay (3:18.98 minutes).
