MYERS ON LOU HENSON AWARD WATCH LIST

Jan. 22, 2015

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior forward Mike Myers on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team has been placed on the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List. CollegeInsider.com released their top 40 players in contention for Division I Mid-Major Player of the Year, including the Hawks' big man.

Myers, a native of Camden, N.J., has been the catalyst for the Hawks' success under first-year head coach Bobby Collins. The forward leads the Hawks in both scoring at 15.1 points per game and rebounding at 6.8 boards per game. Myers has been incredibly efficient on offense, second in the MEAC with a 61.8% field goal percentage. The senior is among the nation's leaders in free throw attempts, outmuscling opponents and drawing contact often. Myers has attempted 160 free throws on the year in 20 games, fourth-most in the NCAA.

On several occasions, Myers has displayed incredible talent and determination on the floor. The MEAC named Myers the conference's Player of the Week for December 22 to 28. For that same week, CollegeInsider.com recognized Myers as their Lou Henson National Player of the Week, presented to the top mid-major performer. For three games at Duquesne, UT-Martin and NJIT, Myers went on an absolute tear, posting three consecutive double-doubles. Against NJIT, Myers recorded career-highs with 29 points and 16 rebounds while connecting on 11-of-12 free throws. In 13 games since Thanksgiving, the Hawks have gone 9-4 and Myers scoring in double digits in all but one of those contests.

The Hawks have made an unprecedented turnaround with Myers playing a critical role. UMES currently sits at 10-10 overall, surpassing their win total from the previous two seasons combined. In fact, with 11 games to play, UMES has already secured double digits wins for just the second time in 13 years. This is the latest that a Hawks' squad has been at .500 or better since the 1993-94 season when UMES finished 16-12, their last winning season.

The 40 players on the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List include one other MEAC student-athlete, Jordan Parks from North Carolina Central. The finalists for the 2015 Lou Henson Award will be announced in March. The 2015 recipient will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 3 in Indianapolis, site of the 2015 men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
