HAWK TALK: A WEEKLY RECAP OF UMES ATHLETICS (NOV. 23 - 29)

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - This week's Hawk Talk edition features news from men's & women's basketball, bowling, and more.

We hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break! Now, we're back to work!

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Last Monday (Nov. 23), senior forward Dominique Elliott (Savannah, Ga.) was named University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) Athlete of the Week, alongside bowler Seraus, for his efforts versus Wofford. Elliott got on track in a big way as he finished with 19 points on 50-percent shooting from the field.

The next night, UMES fell in the home opener against Fairfield, 113-74. Senior Devin Martin (Baltimore) scored 15 points to lead all Hawk scorers while freshman Dontae Caldwell (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 13 points in a losing effort.

On Friday (Nov. 27), head coach Bobby Collins captured his 200th career win after defeating Saint Francis (Pa.), 70-57, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. Elliott and Martin led the charge with 39 combined points.

Tomorrow (Dec. 1), the Hawks will now face one of their tougher opponents, Georgetown, inside The Verizon Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and televised live on Fox Sports 1.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

This past Monday (Nov. 23), freshman guard Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem, N.C.) took home Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week for the second straight week after her performances versus Northeastern and Xavier. In the two game span, the North Carolina product registered 10.5 points-per-game (PPG) while shooting 44-percent (4-of-9) from behind the arc.

The next night (Nov. 24), head coach Fred Batchelor picked up his 200th collegiate victory as they defeated the Cheyney Wolves, 76-46, inside the W. P. Hytche Athletic Center. Guard Moengaroa Subritzky (Auckland, New Zealand) led the charge as she finished with a team-high 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown.

This Wednesday (Dec. 2), Maryland Eastern Shore concludes its two-game home stand against Mount St. Mary's. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

BOWLING

On Nov. 23, senior bowler Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) earned UMES PRMC Athlete of the Week, along with forward Elliott, for her performance at the Hawk Classic. Seraus was named to the All-Tournament team and guided the Hawks to a third-place finish.

The next day (Nov. 24), Seraus earned MEAC Bowler of the Week for the third time this season.

On Dec. 5-6, the Hawks return to the lanes in their second MEAC Northern Division Tournament in Dover, Del.
