PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - Maryland Eastern Shore won their sixth straight match Sunday in a sweep of Hampton (25-19, 25-8, 25-12). The Hawks (13-10, 6-1 MEAC) swept the season series over the Pirates (3-15, 2-5 MEAC) and increased their win streak over Hampton to four, dating back to 2015.

"We played well today and everyone made a significant contribution." Coach Toby Rens said. "Our ability to execute the game plan played a significant role in today's outcome."

Once again, sophomore Rachel Kayongo (Northridge, California) led the way, coming off the bench to fall just shy of a double-double with nine kills and eight digs. Freshman Ivana Blazevic (Zagreb, Croatia) recorded 25 assists, and sophomore Koya Sowells (Missouri City, Texas) led with nine digs. Fellow sophomore Lucia Babic (Sisak, Croatia) delivered four of the Hawks' 12 aces.

Hampton was led by Reanna Richardson with seven kills and five digs.

The match started out sluggish for the Hawks, and the Pirates were able to keep it close in the first set. It was not until the 29th point that Maryland Eastern Shore took the lead on a kill by freshman Iva Vujosevic (Bar, Montenegro). Hampton tried to keep pace once again, but the Pirates succumbed to several errors and the Hawks won by six.

In the second set the Hawks turned on the jets. A full team effort led to an 8-1 start to force a Hampton timeout. The Shore did not stop there, however, as they continued to dial up the pressure with three aces in a row by sophomore Zuzana Ondruskova (Bilovec, Czech Republic) to increase the Hawks' lead to 12. Maryland Eastern Shore completed a 17 point set win by converting over 65 percent of their attacks.

A trio of Babic aces and five Hawk kills helped the home team to an 11-3 outburst to begin the third set. That lead was too much for Hampton to overcome, and the Hawks would steadily build their lead to a 13 point win to seal the match.

Maryland Eastern Shore goes for seven in a row against Howard at 6 p.m. Friday.
