WASHINGTON D.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore had its opportunities on Tuesday at Howard University, but shot just 22-of-36 (61 percent) from the line as the Bison pulled away for a 77-74 victory.
The Hawks (8-18, 5-6 MEAC) held a lead 49-48 with 14:33 remaining in the contest, but a 6-0 run by Howard (10-15, 4-6 MEAC) and some struggles from the line pushed the Bison lead to 60-51 with 8:54 to go in the game.
Howard maintained the lead for the rest of the contest.
James Daniel III, scored 38 points for the Bison and became the all-time leading scorer for Howard University.
Devin Martin (Baltimore, Maryland) led the Hawks with 26 points, while Dominique Elliott (Savannah, Georgia) had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Bakari Copeland (Decatur, Georgia) chipped in 15 points.
After Howard, the Hawks return home for a three-game stretch that begins with a Homecoming matchup against South Carolina State on Feb. 20, at 4 p.m. All are the second half of a men's and women's doubleheader.
