DUNDALK, Md. - Coach Sam Douglas and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Softball Team were swept in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader at Morgan State (MSU).

MSU (12-24, 7-6 MEAC) won game one in extras, 2-1, and followed up with an impressive performance in the nightcap, 7-0.

The first contest witnessed a pitching duel between UMES' sophomore Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.) and Morgan State's Amy Begg.

For Guerra, she tossed seven innings and struck out nine Lady Bears in the loss.

In the second, Begg walked freshman MacKenzie Brown (Bayonne, N.J.) and scored senior Emily Diseroad (Manchester, Md.) with the bases loaded; thus, giving the Lady Hawks the early lead, 1-0.

In the sixth, MSU scored their first run on consecutive doubles and tied the contest, 1-1.

After both squads were unable to score in the seventh, Maryland Eastern Shore came up empty in the eight. In the bottom half, the Lady Bears' Damali Young delivered a walk-off homer over the right field fence and gave MSU the victory, 2-1.

In the nightcap, UMES' offensive woes continued as they produced only four hits.

Morgan State attacked early as they scored on a wild pitch in the first, 1-0. Next inning, the Lady Bears added three more and took a 4-0 advantage after two.

Third inning, MSU manufactured another run to extend their lead, 5-0. In the fourth, Morgan State generated two insurance runs as they won by the final score 7-0.

With both setbacks, the Lady Hawks dipped to 10-26 (3-11 MEAC) on the season.

Tomorrow's (April 24) seven-inning contest starts 3 p.m. and will take place at CSU Softball Field.
