PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - On a day where Coach Sam Douglas honored five Lady Hawks for Senior Day, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Softball Team saw the special event spoiled as the Howard Lady Bison swept the twinbill.

UMES (11-30, 4-13 MEAC) dropped game one, 5-1, and then Howard (9-32, 5-12) rallied and produced 15 unanswered runs to take the nightcap, 15-6, at Hawks Field.

In the first contest, Maryland Eastern Shore managed only four hits. Senior Emily Diseroad (Manchester, Md.) earned her second career homer in the fourth and went 2-of-3 overall.

Howard scored twice in the second and third to take a commanding 4-0 advantage after three.

In the fourth, Diseroad delivered a solo shot to left center and put UMES on the board, 4-1.

Top six, Howard's Milan Poindexter earned a RBI-double and made final score 5-1.

In game two, the Lady Hawks doubled their hit total from the first game. Junior Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman Sara Jo Whaley (Laurel, Del.) each collected two hits. Junior Ciara Schnyder (Arcadia, Calif.) came away with the biggest hit, launching a three-run blast over the left center fence.

Maryland Eastern Shore attacked early as they manufactured five runs on four hits in the opening inning, including Schnyder's three-run shot.

After a scoreless second, the Lady Bison responded scoring six runs on six hits to take the lead, 6-5.

Howard's momentum continued into the fourth with Al'Asia Davis' two-run homer to left field, 8-5.

Into the sixth inning, Howard added four runs and took a commanding 12-5 lead.

Top seven, the Lady Bison increased their margin to 10 with three more runs, 15-5. In the bottom half, the Lady Hawks refused to give up as sophomore Tesharra Hill (Chatsworth, Calif.) drove in Anderson on a RBI-single to left field; thus, making the final score 15-6.

Tomorrow (May 1), Maryland Eastern Shore concludes its 2016 campaign against Howard in a seven-inning game. First-pitch is set for noon at Hawks Field.
