University of Maryland Eastern Shore Announces 2016 Hawk Summer Camps

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Athletics Department has increased the compliment of official youth summer camps to five with the addition of tennis and volleyball camps for the first time.

Those new camps were added to the already offered: Bobby Collins Basketball Camp, Lady Hawk Basketball Academy and Swing & Strike Camp.

The camps serve those between the ages of seven and 18 years old with all campers receiving a t-shirt. A discount of up to $50 is available to those campers who sign up for more than one of the camps, which range throughout the summer. Waiver forms must be filled out for all participants.

Maryland Eastern Shore 2016 summer camp offerings:

Men's Basketball

The fun begins with the 2nd annual Bobby Collins Basketball Camp with two sessions inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center (W.P. Hytche Center).

On June 20-23, the individual camp runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $125 whereas UMES faculty and staff children pay $100.

On June 24-26, Coach Collins will host team camps from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The registration fee is $300 per team.

Each camper is provided with a basketball and advanced skill drills.

Women's Basketball

On June 27-30, UMES Women's Basketball Head Coach Fred Batchelor will host the 2016 Lady Hawk Basketball Academy inside the W.P. Hytche Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $75 for boys and girls between seven and 17 years old. Meals are not provided, but lunch and snacks may be purchased.

The Lady Hawk Basketball Academy is a commuter camp; however, if anyone is interested in overnight and meal accommodations, please contact Coach Jenkins for arrangements on a case by case basis.

Bowling & Golf

On July 11-13, the 2nd annual Swing & Strike Camp returns with instructors UMES Women's Bowling Head Coach Kayla Bandy, UMES Men's Golf Head Coach Marshall Cropper, and former collegiate standout Jamila Johnson. The cost is $75 for boys and girls between seven and 17 years old. Lunch will not be provided; however, you may bring your own lunch or purchase from concessions.

The camp is designed to give area youth a taste of UMES' two premier sports. Youth will spend two half-day sessions bowling at the Sharon D. Brummell Lanes on campus. Then, two half days of instructions in the basics of golf. On the final day, the campers will take part in a round robin of activities where the participants will put their skills to the test to see what they have learned over the first two days.

Tennis

On July 18-22, instructors Walter Woods, UMES Tennis Head Coach, Benjamin H. Woods, Sr. and Benjamin H. Woods, Jr. will host the 2016 UMES Tennis Camp at the Hawks Tennis Complex, adjacent to UMES Boulevard, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Age ranges between seven and 17 years old with each camper required to bring their own racket, can of unopened tennis balls, water bottle, lunch and snack. The cost is $125 while UMES faculty and staff children pay $100.

Volleyball

On August 1-4, the summer camps conclude with the 2016 Toby Rens Volleyball Camp, held inside the W.P. Hytche Center. Ages range between 11 and 18 years old with meals provided. The cost for overnight campers is $310, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, overnight campers will have organized, nightly activities in the dorms.

Commuters pay $150 whereas UMES faculty and staff children pay $125.

Campers will be grouped by level of athleticism, experience and aged into Elite, Intermediate, or Beginner levels. The camp focuses on developing all volleyball skills in a fun and energetic environment.

Furthermore, campers will also compete in competitive games and drills as Coach Rens and a high-level camp staff will offer you high quality instructions while providing a memorable experience.
