Andreas Roman finishes in top three; UMES finishes tenth in final fall tournament


POWELLS POINT, North Carolina - Led by the play of Andreas Roman, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's golf team compiled its best result of the fall season during this week's Old Dominion OBX Intercollegiate.


Competing at Kilmarlic Golf Club, UMES opened the tournament with a team score of 288 with subpar rounds from Roman and Max Osten. Roman shot a season-low round of 67 highlighted by six birdies and an eagle to finish at 4-under par and in a tie for second place. Osten fired a 1-under par 70 in the first round while totalling five birdies. Senior Pedro Marchioni had four opening round birdies and finished with a 74 and freshman Marcos Ramirez rounded out the top four scores for the Hawks with a 77.


Roman remained in contention with an even par 71 in the second round which included another eagle of the par five twelvth hole. Osten finished with a 75 and Marchioni followed with a 76. Jeter Teng posted a score of 78 as the Hawks combined for a second round team score of 300.


In the final round, Roman climbed up to the top of the lead midway through the day. Roman's final round of 74 resulted in a three day total of 212 (-1) and a third place finish for the freshman from Gibraltor, Spain. Marchioni continued his consistent play with a final round of 74 and a tournament toal of 224. Osten finished his final round with a 77 for a final three-round score of 222. Ramirez came in with the fourth lowest UMES score of the third round with a 78 and finished with 235. As a team, the Hawks recorded a final round score of 303 and a final tournament score of 891 to finish in tenth place in a field of 16 teams.
