GREENSBORO, North Carolina - Maryland Eastern Shore was five innings away from notching their first win. But the North Carolina A&T Aggies stormed from behind, scoring 11 unanswered runs to earn a series sweep.
Junior Ryan Rotondo (Warwick, Rhode Island) went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. The Hawks also earned clutch hits from junior Dallas Culotta (Princess Anne, Maryland) and his first home run of the year, and a double from junior Jamison Trower (Chesterfield, Virginia).
Freshman starter Wesley Martin (Westminster, Maryland) was sharp thru four innings, striking out three Aggies along the way. Junior reliever Evan Bertone (Douglas, Massachusetts) took the loss, but it was the Hawks defense that struggled late, committing five of their six errors in the last four innings.
Culotta's home run in the second gave the Hawks a 2-0 edge, and Trower's double came in the fifth. He would later score on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 Hawks.
In the fifth, the Aggies made their comeback. With four runs in the fifth to tie, they forced the Hawks to pull Martin for Bertone. The relief held the Aggies in check in the fifth, but they would score three more times in the sixth and four more times in the seventh to win.
The Hawks will return to Greensboro next weekend to face the UNCG Spartans. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday.
