GREENSBORO, North Carolina - Maryland Eastern Shore's hopes to salvage a game against the UNCG Spartans were swept away-along with the series-by a seven run first inning. UNCG won the game by an 18-4 final, dropping the Hawks' record to 0-9.

The Hawks were held without a hit until the seventh inning when junior Jamison Trower (Chesterfield, Virginia) singled to left. Freshman Derek Schoff (Colora, Maryland) earned his first collegiate hit with a single in the eighth, which helped kick off a four run inning for The Shore, the only inning in which they were able to cross the plate

Freshman starter Steven Cook (Westminster, Maryland) took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season. Fellow freshman Caleb Walston (Princess Anne, Maryland) was effective in relief, holding UNCG scoreless in the seventh.

The Spartans put up crooked numbers in multiple innings, with seven runs scored in the first, four runs in the second and five runs in the fifth.

Maryland Eastern Shore will play their first midweek contest of the 2017 season in Annapolis, Maryland when they take of Navy. A 2 p.m. first pitch is scheduled.
