DOVER, Del. - Delaware State (DSU) scored early and never looked back as they cruised past the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Softball team, 10-0.
With the setback, Eastern Shore (10-20, 4-8 MEAC) suffered their sixth consecutive loss.
Senior Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.), junior Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.), and newcomer Lindsey Snyder (Brighton, Ill.) each registered a hit in the loss.
After taking an early 2-0 lead, DSU doubled their advantage in the third with a two-run double by Danielle Velez, 4-0.
Delaware State added another run in the fourth, thanks to a RBI-double from freshman Desiree Moreno, and took a commanding 5-0 lead.
DSU's momentum continued into the fifth as they exploded for five runs, capped off by a walk-off grand slam from Moreno, 10-0.
For the Hornets (13-24, 10-5), they collected 10 runs on 12 hits. Moreno and Velez combined for eight RBIs in the victory.
On April 22-23, the Hawks host in-state foe Morgan State in league play.
The three-game series starts with a Saturday (April 22) doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by Sunday's (April 23) seven-inning contest at noon.
