BETHESDA, Maryland - For the second straight game, an early lead by the Hawks gave way to a comeback by their opponents. This time it was at the hands of the Georgetown Hoyas, who won the contest 8-5 in Maryland Eastern Shore's regular season finale.
Sophomore Joey Nicastro (New Market, Maryland) feasted off Hoya pitching, going 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI in the fifth inning. Senior Jordan Wesley (Mitchellville, Maryland) added two hits with an RBI and a run. On the mound, junior Christian Rose (Martinsburg, West Virginia) and freshman Andre Bell (Detroit, Michigan) tossed unblemished relief appearances.
The Shore grabbed a quick lead in the top of the second inning with three runs. Wesley and junior Isaiah Chambers (Bowie, Maryland) punched home RBI singles and junior Tyler Friis (Appleton, Wisconsin) helped out with a sacrifice fly. Chambers finished the game with two hits and a pair of RBI's.
Georgetown tied the contest off a home run in bottom of the second, then scored three more times in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Maryland Eastern Shore finishes the regular season with a record of 12-38. The Hawks will face the No. 2 seed out of the Southern Division at the upcoming Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Championship. First pitch is Wednesday, May 17, at noon.
