Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA - In their season finale, Coach Sam Douglas and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Softball team dropped a pair of contests at Drexel.

Drexel (17- 28) rallied to knock off the Hawks in game one, 5-3, then the Dragons finished Eastern Shore (11-27) early with a 9-1 victory in the nightcap.

Despite collecting eight hits in game one, the Hawks stranded seven runners and settled with three runs on the board.

Junior Samantha Casarez (Sylmar, Calif.) went 2-of-4 with a RBI while fellow classmate Sarah Maldonado (Carson, Calif.) produced a RBI and run scored in a losing effort.

Drexel's Linda Rush delivered a solo shot to left center and put the Dragons ahead early, 1-0.

In the third, Drexel capitalized on an Eastern Shore miscue and doubled their advantage, 2-0.

Top five, Maldonado's RBI-single to left center brought home sophomore MacKenzie Brown (Bayonne, N.J.) and put Maryland Eastern Shore on the board, 2-1.

With runners on the corner, Eastern Shore utilized the double steal and sophomore Daeshia Jones (Teaneck, N.J.) tied the contest, 2-2.

Next, Casarez gave The Shore its first lead with a RBI-single to left, 3-2.

Bottom five, the Dragons answered and scored three times to reclaim the lead, 5-3.

In the nightcap, senior Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded a multi-hit game after going 2-of-3 at the plate.

Furthermore, Anderson played her final two games for the Maroon & Grey.

The Colorado Springs native ended her career competing in 155 games, including 149 starts, while producing 108 hits, 42 RBIs, 33 walks, 20 doubles, 16 stolen bases, three triples, and a homer.

Drexel scored twice in the first, but Maryland Eastern Shore responded with a sac fly from Ciara Walters (Thurmont, Md.) and cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

Eastern Shore could not slow down the Dragons' attack as they scored seven unanswered, highlighted by a game-ending double from Drexel's Jourdan Skirha, 9-1.

Coach Douglas and the Hawks look to rebound and continue their quest for a conference title next season.
