BALTIMORE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team fell victim to Morgan State's early charges in a 3-0 sweep (16-25, 18-25, 13-25) at Hill Field House.
"Today was proof that we need to get better as a team." Head Coach Trevor Callarman. "Now that we are halfway done the conference season and we have no matches next weekend, it's the perfect time to re-evaluate and improve."
The Hawks (6-13, 3-2 MEAC) drops to third place in the MEAC Northern Division. Senior Lucia Babic (Sisak, Croatia) earned nine kills and senior Rachel Kayongo (Northridge, California) finished with seven.
Morgan State (12-9, 4-1 MEAC) takes control of second place in the North, a half-game behind Howard. The Bears received 11 kills each from Cristen Coryatt and Kalysia Bates, along with 30 assists from setter Roi Wallace.
The Shore was outpaced in kills 40-21, as the Hawks were held to a hitting percentage of zero. Morgan State also led in assists 35 to 18, digs 38 to 29 and blocks eight to four.
The Bears earned their first victory over The Shore since the 2015 season. They started strong in each set, scoring 10 of the first 15 in set two, and then earning 15-6 and 15-7 leads over the next two sets.
Maryland Eastern Shore will be off next weekend before returning to the court in a non-conference showdown at Liberty on October 23rd.
