Hawks Fall in Their Season Opener

GREENSBORO, North Carolina - The 2018 Maryland Eastern Shore softball season began with a loss as the Hawks were defeated by Cleveland State 12-1.

The Shore managed to get only four hits as the Vikings had 11. Also, the Hawks had four errors, which led to five unearned runs for Cleveland State.

Senior Samantha Casarez was the bright spot at the plate for the Hawks as she went 2-2 and scored Eastern Shore's lone run. The other hits during the game for the Hawks came from juniors Kayla Trekell and Sara Jo Whaley.

The Hawks began their second game of the Aggie Invitational against the host North Carolina A&T, but play was suspended prior to the top of the 4th due to darkness. The Aggies were leading 6-0 when play stopped. The game will resume on Saturday (Feb. 17) at 8:30 am.

The Hawks will conclude the tournament on Sunday (Feb. 18) with games against Howard and Cleveland State.
