March 17, 2018 Box Score
SALISBURY, Maryland - Eastern Shore lost both games of their doubleheader with Delaware State on Saturday (Mar.17). The score of game one was 17-10 and game two finished with a score of 13-2.
In game one, the Hawks had their best offensive output of the season. Their 10 runs were the best number they scored this season in one game. The previous best was five. But Delaware State hit early and often to counter the Hawks.
The Shore scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Three errors from the Hornets allowed the Hawks to capitalize as Mackenzie Brown, Jordan Robinson, and Samantha Casarez all scored following Delaware State mistakes. However, the Hornets made up for it in the second and third inning as they scored six and five runs respectively in the next two frames.
Casarez singled to center field in the fifth to score Brown and Kayla Trekell to make the score 11-10, but that is as close as the Hawks would get as the Hornets scored six runs in the final two innings.
Brown, Casarez, Breana Florez, and Daeshia Jones all had two hits in game one. Junior Sara Jo Whaley had 3 RBIs in the contest for Eastern Shore as well.
In game two, Delaware State got a complete game from Hannah Shields inside the circle to help with their strong plate performance. The Hawks managed to get only six hits in the contest.
Freshman Nasya Goodman did get her first collegiate hit in the contest in the second inning. She would come around to score and that, along with Trekell scoring in the first inning, would be the only runs in the game for Eastern Shore.
The Hornets were led at the plate during both games by All-MEAC selection Desiree Moreno. During the two games she combined to go 6-10 with two HRs, eight RBIs, and four runs scored.
The Hawks and Hornets will complete their weekend series with a game on Sunday (Mar. 18) at noon at Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex.
