SALISBURY, Maryland - The Shore lost to Delaware State on Sunday (Mar. 18) by a score of 8-2. The game completed the Hornets' weekend sweep of the Hawks. The Hawks gave up four runs in the first inning, which set the tone for Delaware State. The Hornets added four more in the third in what turned out to be their final runs of the game. Following three straight singles from Sara Jo Whaley, ToriJo Brown, and Allison Gingrich, the Hawks had bases loaded with zero outs in the second, but were only able to plate Whaley. The Hawks other run of the game came off of the bat of Daeshia Jones in the fifth as she singled to left field and Heidi Smith came in to score. Delaware State saw major production at the plate from their six and seven spot in the lineup. Jasmine Melgoza and Kaleigh Berry each went 3-4 with one run scored. They also combined for 3 RBIs on the afternoon. The Shore will play seven road games over spring break beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday (Mar. 21) at Savannah State.
