DURHAM, North Carolina - Maryland Eastern Shore baseball started strong in their contest with North Carolina Central, but the Eagles took over in the middle innings to win 18-5 at Durham Athletic Park.
The Shore (2-17) got on the board first with a pair of two out RBI singles from senior Jamison Trower (Chesterfield, Virginia) and freshman Avery Tunnell (Dover, Delaware).
North Carolina Central (15-7) was held in check for the opening innings, but they gained the lead in the fourth with a nine run frame. The Shore walked six runners in that span, helping the Eagles put up the crooked number.
The Eagles added a run in the sixth, another five in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Junior Joey Nicastro (New Market, Maryland) sent home two in the ninth on a single for the Hawks, and senior Isaiah Chambers (Bowie, Maryland) cleared the bases, scampering home on an error.
With the win, the Eagles surge ahead in the all-time series between the schools, acheiving eight victories to the Hawks' seven.
The spring break series continues with Duke on Wednesday (Mar. 21). First pitch is at 4 p.m. inside Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
