SAVANNAH, Georgia - The Hawks split two games with the Savannah State Lady Tigers on Wednesday (Mar.21). The Shore won game one 7-5 and lost game two 8-0.
In game one, Eastern Shore freshman Nasya Goodman threw her sixth complete of the season. She pitched seven innings giving up only four hits and striking out eight Tiger batters.
The Shore got early production at the plate by scoring four runs in the top of the first. After walks by juniors Mackenzie Brown and Daeshia Jones, senior Samantha Casarez doubled to left field to bring them home. The next batter was junior Sara Jo Whaley and she singled up the middle to bring home Casarez. All of that happened before the Hawks suffered their first out. Junior Kayla Trekell drew a bases loaded walk later in the inning to plate junior Breana Florez to round out the scoring in the first.
The Hawks saw their next run cross in the third inning as Trekell scored off of a Brown triple. Their final two runs came in the sixth as Casarez and Jones each scored their second run of the contest.
In game two, Savannah State got an impressive complete game from Tanisha Williams in the circle.
Only three Hawks were able to get a hit in game two. Two came from Brown, while Casarez and Florez each got one.
Junior Kiana Peterson reached on an error in the fifth and advanced to second base, but that is where she would stay as Williams forced two pop outs after that and the game was called after five innings.
The Hawks will continue their spring break road trip with a doubleheader at South Carolina State on Thursday (Mar. 22).
