Box Score

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina - Eastern Shore captured two wins against South Carolina State on Thursday (Mar. 22). The score in game one was 8-4 and game two's score was 15-4.

The Hawks got strong offense throughout the afternoon as well as steady pitching from freshman Nasya Goodman in both contests.

In game one, the Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the first. They held the Hawks scoreless through three innings in the game.

The Shore opened their scoring in the fourth inning as junior Sara Jo Whaley led the inning off with a solo homerun. After a walk from sophomore ToriJo Brown and double from junior Heidi Smith, junior Daeshia Jones hit a double to left center to bring in two runs and give the Hawks a 3-2 lead.

The Bulldogs regained a 4-3 lead in the fifth and the Hawks answered right back in the sixth. Freshman Jordan Robinson served as a pinch runner and scored after two wild pitches and a single from Smith. The Hawks took the lead later in the frame as Jones scored from a single by senior Samantha Casarez.

The seventh inning saw the Hawks score three more runs courtesy of a two run homer from Smith and a Bulldog error that allowed junior Kayla Trekell to cross home plate.

In game two, Eastern Shore had control from the beginning. They scored two in the first as sophomore Allison Gingrich hit a double to score Trekell and Casarez brought Gingrich home on a RBI groundout.

The second inning saw the Hawks score seven runs off of five hits. The big hit came from Casarez as she hit a double with the bases loaded to bring Gingrich, Jones, and Trekell home.

The Shore put four more up in the third. Goodman had the inning's big hit with a two RBI double that scored Smith and junior Breana Florez.

Gingrich and junior Mackenzie Brown scored in the fourth to bring the Hawks' run total to 15, which is the Hawks highest offensive output of the season.

The Shore will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 24) for a doubleheader against conference opponent Coppin State in Baltimore.
