March 27, 2018 Box Score
BALTIMORE, Maryland - The Hawks lost both games in Tuesday's (Mar. 27) doubleheader to in-state opponent Coppin State University. Game one ended with a score of 6-1 and game two's score was 12-7.
The Shore did not see much success from the plate in game one. They managed to get only three hits during the game. They came from sophomore Allison Gingrich in the third, freshman Jordan Robinson in the fifth, and senior Samantha Casarez in the sixth.
Eastern Shore's lone run in game one came in the fifth inning. Junior Mackenzie Brown hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought freshman Nasya Goodman across the plate.
In game two, both teams had big innings early. The Lady Eagles score eight runs in the bottom of the second. The Hawks followed that with seven runs in the top of the third.
After Casarez and juniors Sara Jo Whaley and Breana Florez scored runs, the Hawks cut the lead to 8-3. After that junior Heidi Smith stole second and junior Kiana Peterson drew a walk. That loaded the bases for the Hawks.
Daeshia Jones emptied them with one swing of the bat. The junior hit her first homerun in a Hawk uniform to bring the Shore within one at 8-7.
That would be as close as the game would get as Coppin State scored four more runs before the game ended.
The Hawks and Lady Eagles will complete their midweek series tomorrow (Mar. 28) at 1:00 pm.
