SALISBURY, Maryland - Eastern Shore lost two games on Saturday (Mar. 31) to Norfolk State. Game one's score was 7-0 and game two finished with a 2-1 score in extra innings.
In game one, the Spartans got a complete game from Hunter Halford. She gave up only one hit during the contest and had 12 strikeouts. Junior Sara Jo Whaley was the Hawk that got the hit which came during the fifth inning.
Game two was a low scoring affair. Norfolk State scored their runs in the first and last innings played. The Hawks scored their lone run in the fourth.
Senior Samantha Casarez scored the run after junior Heidi Smith hit a double to the right center fence.
With the game tied in the top of the eighth, Norfolk State's Julianne Gillo hit a bloop single to right center with two outs to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, junior Kiana Peterson struck out to lead off the inning but reached first base on a passed ball. Peterson advanced to third after a bunt from junior Mackenzie Brown and a groundout from junior Kayla Trekell. That got the Hawks down to their last out.
The next batter was freshman Jordan Robinson. She hit a bullet in the air to right center that Norfolk State's Shelby Deschamps ran down to end the game.
After six games in five days, the Hawks are off until April 11 when they play non-conference opponent La Salle at home. First pitch is set to take place at 2:00 p.m.
