Hawks Face Stellar Pitching From Hampton in Loss

March 4, 2018

Box Score

HAMPTON, Virginia - The Hawks were defeated on the final day of the Pirate Invitational by host Hampton with a score of 14-0.

Pirates junior Allie Hotetz allowed only two Hawks to reach base during her five innings of no-hit work. While Hotetz was strong on the mound, she got a lot of support on offense, especially from the top of the lineup. Hampton's 1-4 hitters, Dasha Hill, Cassidy Blackwell, Alana VanDenburg, and Kial Watts, combined to go 11-12 with 10 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

Heidi Smith reached on an error in the 3rd inning and served as the Hawks first base runner of the afternoon. The next batter was Allison Gingrich and she reached on a fielder's choice after Smith was thrown out at second, but that was the only threat The Shore managed during the game.

The Hawks will be back in action Saturday (Mar. 10) against conference opponent South Carolina State in Atlanta during the HBCU Tournament. The Hawks will also play Alabama State on Saturday.
