HAMPTON, Virginia - Day Two of the Pirate Invitational saw Eastern Shore take losses from North Dakota and Hampton. Eastern Shore fell to the Fighting Hawks 13-0, and the Pirates 6-5.

In game one, North Dakota scored early and often. The Fighting Hawks scored three runs in the first inning, three in the third, and seven in the fourth. They were led by Angel Love, who went 2-3 with a double, homerun, and two runs scored.

The Hawks were only able to get two hits in the game. They came from juniors Sara Jo Whaley and Breana Florez in the second and fourth innings.

The second game versus Hampton was a back and forth affair all game.

The Pirates scored a run in the bottom of the first, but by the end of the third, the Hawks held a 2-1 lead. That came from an RBI single from Whaley that scored Kayla Trekell, followed by an RBI single by Samantha Casarez that scored Mackenzie Brown.

Hampton would carry a 5-2 lead into the top of the sixth, but The Shore would rally to tie the game in that inning. Freshman Nasya Goodman reached base on a fielder's choice that would score Casarez. Following that, Pirate shortstop Morgan Crawford had a throwing error while trying to get junior Heidi Smith out at first base. The ball traveled over the fence by the Pirates dugout and junior Kiana Peterson and Goodman came around to score and tie the game.

The game would stay tied until the bottom of the seventh when Hampton's Lorena Alvarez bunted in the winning run after a double and an error by the Hawks.

The Hawks will play Hampton again tomorrow (Mar. 4) to conclude their play in the Pirate Invitational.
