HAMPTON, Virginia - Eastern Shore split two games on Saturday (Apr. 14) with the Hampton University Pirates. The Shore won game one 2-1, while the Pirates took game two by the score of 10-2. The win in game one was the Hawks first win in MEAC play this season.
In game one, Hampton scored their lone run in the first inning off of an error by the Hawks. After that freshman Nasya Goodman settled in and pitched her 12th complete game of the season and got her fourth win.
The Hawks got their two runs in the fourth inning after a wild pitch scored junior Sara Jo Whaley, who went 2-3 in the game. Also, the wild pitch led to a throwing error on the catcher which allowed junior Breana Florez to score.
Hampton came out firing in game two as they got six hits and five runs in the first inning.
The Shore got their first run in the fourth after Whaley crossed home plate following an error. The other run was scored by freshman Zoe Jackson after she drew a walk and Whaley drove her in later in the inning.
Freshman Jordan Robinson went 2-2 in game two, and both junior Heidi Smith and sophomore Allison Gingrich each got a hit as well.
The Hawks and Pirates will complete their weekend series tomorrow (Apr. 15) at noon on the campus of Hampton University.
