SALISBURY, Maryland - After the Hawks baseball team honored its nine seniors, they looked to salvage a game against Norfolk State. But a series of errors and missed opportunities gave the Spartans the sweep by a 6-2 final.

The loss drops The Shore's record to 9-35 (5-16 MEAC).

Eight of the nine seniors participated in the game, with Toby Hoskins (North East, Maryland) being the lone exception after he started a game on Saturday. Top performers among the senior class Sunday (Apr. 29) included a five inning, two run start by Evan Bertone (Douglas, Massachusetts) and scoreless relief outings by Christian Rose (Martinsburg, West Virginia) and Chris Melrath (North East, Maryland). On offense, Isaiah Chambers (Bowie, Maryland) had a two hit game and knocked in a run.

Outside of the senior class the Hawks received a two hit game and RBI from freshman Avery Tunnell (Dover, Delaware). Junior Dominic DeBlasie (Tilton, New Hampshire) drew four walks during the contest.

The Spartans were able to capitalize off four Hawk errors to plate six on five hits. They took a 2-0 lead on a two run homer by Stephen Baughan and led wire-to-wire.

Maryland Eastern Shore had chances to respond in the fifth and seventh. In each inning they loaded the bases with one down. A double play stifled the fifth inning rally, and a strikeout and pop up ended the seventh inning threat.

The Shore travels to Pittsburgh for two games this week before heading to Dover for a critical three game set with Delaware State.
