PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania - Despite a homerun by senior Jamison Trower (Chesterfield, Virginia) and RBI's from senior Isaiah Chambers (Bowie, Maryland) and freshman Brian Cordell (Pasadena, Maryland), the Hawks lost their opener with the Pitt Panthers, 15-3, on Tuesday (May 1).
Chambers' RBI single came in the seventh and was part of a multi-hit game for the senior. Trower's moon shot-his third of the year-got the Hawks on the board in the sixth. Cordell knocked in sophomore Blake Coleman (Woodbridge, Virginia) in the ninth and scored on Chambers' hit.
Pittsburgh's offense, however, proved more efficient on the day. The Panthers hit a home run in the first inning to break the ice, then blew the game open with a six spot in the fourth.
The home squad's runs were scored consistently throughout the game-so much in fact that the three Hawk pitchers split the run counts evenly at five apiece. Starter Chris Levere (King George, Virginia) took the loss, but managed to strike out five Pitt batters in 3 2/3 innings of work.
With the defeat The Shore's record falls to 9-36. The series wraps us Wednesday (May 2) at noon.
