May 16, 2018

Box Score

NORFOLK, Virginia - Maryland Eastern Shore fell to Florida A&M in the opening game of the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Championship by a 14-4 final Wednesday (May 16).

Junior Dominic DeBlasie (Tilton, New Hampshire) had a deuces wild day at the plate with two hits in two at-bats, two runs scored and two RBI's. DeBlasie also added a free pass to his stat line.

Other top performers include a two hit game with a RBI from senior Jamison Trower (Chesterfield, Virginia) and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Dwayne Marshall (Piscataway, New Jersey).

The Shore got on the board first as Trower plated DeBlasie with an RBI double. The Rattlers responded with two runs in the second and a four spot in the third, capped off by a Jacky Miles home run.

Marshall added his sacrifice fly in the fourth to trim the deficit, and DeBlasie followed that with a two run double in the fifth to cut the game to 6-4. Sophomore Caleb Walston (Princess Anne, Maryland) kept the Rattlers off the board after coming in with the bases loaded and no one out in the fourth, but Florida A&M increased their lead the next inning with seven runs.

Kaycee Reese hit a home run for the Rattlers in the sixth to pull the lead up to ten, and The Shore was unable to respond in the seventh, ending the game.

Maryland Eastern Shore will take on the loser between Norfolk State and Bethune-Cookman in an elimination match at approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday (May 17) morning.
