LIMERICK, Pennsylvania — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore went 5-0 on the opening day of the KU Invitational at the Limerick Bowl in Limerick, Pennsylvania. The Hawks have a Day 1 total pinfall of 5,016 (200.6 average), which is 180 pins behind first place Fairleigh Dickinson.
"Today was a solid day," head coach
Kayla Bandy said. "The team ended the day with a 43 percent strike percentage, 87 percent single-pin conversion rate, and we averaged 200.64 for 25 games."
The Hawks opened the Day with a 931-929 win against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rival North Carolina A&T State. Next came a 926-921 victory against Long Island University Post.
"There was a lot of friction out there today and we had to move left quickly," Bandy said. "Once the ladies found their rhythm in the lineup, they were good to go. Tomorrow, we will get started early and have a better idea of what to do on the fresh."
Eastern Shore (33-19, 8-2 MEAC) pounded Sam Houston State 1,116-965 in the next match and built on that momentum with a 1,059-918 win against Medaille.
Finally, The Shore shut down Youngstown State 984-922.
Competition kicks off again on Saturday (Jan. 19) with five traditional matched beginning at 9 a.m.
