Hawks Face the Undefeated Spartans

Eastern Shore Plays Their Third Straight on the Road

NORFOLK, Virginia The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team is set to take on the Norfolk State University Spartans on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 26) in their third straight road game. Tip will be at 6:30 p.m.

The Hawks (3-18, 1-5 MEAC) are coming off an 89-68 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 21. Tyler Jones (Atlantic City, NJ) led the Hawks with 17 points.

Maryland Eastern Shore played almost even with the Wildcats for 30 minutes, but wore down as the game entered the final 10 minutes. The contest was two days after a 60-58 overtime win over Florida A&M, which was the Hawks first road win in nearly two years.

The Shore will now face one of the two teams that are still undefeated in MEAC play, Norfolk State. North Carolina A&T is the other team undefeated in conference play, but they have played one less game in MEAC play than Eastern Shore and NSU.

The Spartans (11-10, 6-0 MEAC) have overcome second half deficits in their last two contests to keep their conference record unblemished.  NSU came into the season with two players named to the preseason All-MEAC teams, Steven Whitley and Alex Long, however, Nic Thomas is leading the Spartans in scoring to this point with 13.9 points per game.

The game can be heard locally on Fox Sports 960 AM WTGM and online at EasternShoreHawks.com. Pregame coverage begins with Will DeBoer following the conclusion of the women's game between the Hawks and Spartans.
