PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks men's basketball team will play their first home conference game of the season on Monday night (Jan. 7) versus the Howard University Bison. Tip will be at 7:30 p.m.
The Hawks (2-14, 0-1 MEAC) were defeated in their conference opener by Morgan State 66-53 on Jan. 5. Junior Ahmad Frost (Cincinnati, OH) was the only Hawk in double figures with 14 points. Eastern Shore committed a season high 22 turnovers in that game which hampered much of what they could do offensively.
Monday's game will serve as the first of three straight home games for the Hawks. This stretch will be the longest home stand for the Hawks all season.
Their opponent on Monday night, Howard (6-9, 0-1 MEAC), is coming off a loss to Florida A&M on Jan. 5 and are looking for their first conference win as well. HU already has victories this season versus UMASS and American, a team Maryland Eastern Shore fell to on Dec. 22.
The Bison are led by the last two recipients of the MEAC Rookie of the Year award, sophomore R.J. Cole, the preseason MEAC Player of the Year, and junior Charles Williams. Cole and Williams are averaging a combined 40.1 points per game this season.
The game can be heard locally on Fox Sports 960 AM WTGM and online at EasternShoreHawks.com. Pregame coverage begins with Will DeBoer on The Shore Sports Network following the conclusion of the women's game between the two schools.
