Princess Anne, Maryland — The Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Athletics has just launched a brand new Hawk Rewards app that benefits students, fans and friends of The Shore with prizes for attending events and engaging with the Hawks.
"When students check in at a sporting event, which includes all home contests and many away ones, as well as community and corporate events, they get points that they can redeem for prizes," said
G. Stan Bradley, associate director of athletics for external affairs. "Each event is worth a set amount of points, the goal is to make the Hawk faithful more aware of our contests and increase attendance at those events."
The app also provides easy integration with athletics' social media accounts and will at times reward fans for posting and interacting.
SuperFanU, who created the app, works with hundreds of schools to increase student attendance and participation.
"We really think this will be a great way to spread some Hawk Pride," said Bradley. "People are more in the know, attendance will rise, which helps us with that home field or court advantage, and the rewards help build the Eastern Shore brand. It's really a win win for everyone."
"The app will only grow and get better as more people download it and interact. Prizes will grow, there will be competition among users to see who can get the most points and the fan experience will be even better."
The department plans to create prizes for those that accumulate the most points each year as well as create point thresholds that will give students who use the app for multiple years some special recognition items to reward their loyalty.
"The app isn't just for students," added Bradley. "Alumni, donors, fans, faculty, staff, anyone can participate. We will even add bonus points to those who buy season tickets and make donations. Just let us know you have the app and we will update your account."
The new app has some other features as well, including a fan cam where you can post photos of you and your friends at Hawk events or anywhere in the world in your maroon and grey. It also features places to buy exclusive to the app Hawk gear and even a way to donate to Hawk Athletics.
The app if free to download through the Apple Store and Google Play. Search for the SuperFan app. Once downloaded, find Maryland Eastern Shore among the schools, then make an account. Then when at an event just press the check in button to earn points. Once they have enough points, they can redeem for a prize. Some prizes will be able to be picked up on campus in the athletics offices, while others can be picked up at athletic events during special redemption games.
The app is live now and ready for download with new events and prizes being added regularly.
