Win against No. 3 SFA highlights first day of competition for Hawks

Team will look for more consistency on Day 2

HARAHAN, Louisiana — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore went 3-2 on the first day of competition at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational with 5x5 Baker victories against National Tenpins Coaches Association No. 3 Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern and Tusculum.

The Hawks opened the day with a 956-893 win against the reigning NCAA Champions Ladyjacks and then topped Texas Southern 963-825 before suffering a 914-909 setback against Jackson State.

The Shore finished the day with a win against Tusculum (910-872) and a 1,011-918 loss to University of Alabama-Birmingham.

"Chloe Skurzynski (Carlisle, Pennsylvania) and Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) both filled 43 out of 50 frames," Hawks coach Kayla Bandy said. "We struggled to find momentum in the lineup, but that will come as the season progresses. Better shots have to be thrown and adequate evaluation of each shot must be better."

Eastern Shore will play five traditional team matches on Saturday (Oct. 19) beginning at 9:30 eastern.
