Willis plays strong and Arcusa makes her season debut

FRONT ROYAL, VIRGINIA – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's golf team finished third out of seven teams in the Greene Turtle Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University on Saturday (Oct. 5) at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club.

This was the team's second tournament of the 2019-20 season.

Sophomore Briahna Willis (Little Rock, Arkansas) led the way for the Hawks finishing in fourth shooting 84+81=165 (+21) over the one day 36-hole event with 40 players in the field. Junior captain Sumayah Arcusa (Bowie, Maryland) made her season debut for The Shore placing tied for eighth 82+89=171 (+27). Junior Morgan Miner (Fort Washington, Maryland) got off to a rough start but turned it around during the second round posting 93+81=171 (+ 30) to finish the tournament in 11th.

"We played well," head coach Billy Dillon said. "We are making progress, showing improvements, and I am looking forward to our home event in Ocean City next week."

This is the team's best overall performance in program history by beating out four schools.

The women's team will tee it up next at home in the fourth Maryland Eastern Shore Collegiate Golf Challenge at Ocean City Golf Club in Berlin, Maryland on Oct. 15-16. The Shore will also host the Hawk Hall of Fame Golf Outing on Oct. 14.
