FARMVILLE, Virginia — In their second game in three days, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team fell to the Longwood University Lancers 85-55 on Tuesday evening (Nov. 12).
The Lancers had a strong first half from behind the arc. They connected on 11 in the first 20 minutes of play. Their hot shooting fueled a 12-0 run from the 3:42 to the 1:12 mark that created separation and gave LU a 50-22 lead at the half.
"Longwood had a tremendous first half shooting the three," head coach Jason Crafton said. "We knew that was their biggest strength and unfortunately we had some mental lapses and they took advantage of it."
In the second half, the Hawks and Lancers played almost even. Longwood only scored two more points in the final 20 minutes than Eastern Shore. Redshirt sophomore Walter Prevost (Houston, Texas) was one of the leading Hawks in the second half as scored eight of his ten points after intermission.
Freshman Da'Shawn Phillip (Baltimore, Md.) had another strong game for the squad as he finished with a team-high 13 points along with three steals and a block. Classmate Bruce Guy (Cordova, Tenn.) also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Maryland Eastern Shore will now begin a week-long road trip with a game this Saturday (Nov. 16) at Morehead State. They will follow that up with games at Stanford (Nov. 19) and Oklahoma (Nov. 21).
