BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore competed at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with freshman
Aurelia Jepkorir (Eldoret, Kenya) turning in the school's top finish at 86
th place (21:59.4) in the 6K race.
Freshman
Nahom Ftwi (Germantown, Maryland) finished 141
st (33:36.5) to lead the men.
"It was a successful day for us at regionals," Hawks coach
Damion Drummond said. "Everyone who competed got a PR for their races. I'm extremely proud of my two young freshmen in Aurelia & Nahom."
The women's squad finished 30
th overall with
Asshanni Robb (Carson, Iowa) in 195
th,
Amirah Jones (Suffolk, Virginia) in 202
nd,
Nikyia Wooten (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) in 203
rd and
Fancy Kipyego (Kiptegap, Kenya) in 205
th.
"Aurelia's 86th place was in a very large field and Amirah redeemed herself with a huge PR from 28 minutes her freshman year to 24 today," Drummond said.
The men did not have a full team compete in the 10K race, but found success with those who competed.
Edwin Kipruto (Iten, Kenya) was 158
th (34:19.9) and
John Akakeya (Staten Island, New York) was 166
th (34:45.9).
Next up for The Shore is IC4A/ECAC Championships Nov. 23.
