Hawks Begin Postseason Play with N.C. A&T

Aggies Won Previous Match in Five Sets

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team opens its quest for a MEAC Tournament title on Friday evening (Nov. 22) in a 5 p.m. quarterfinal match against the North Carolina A&T Aggies. The tournament will be played in its entirety at Burr Gymnasium on the campus of Howard University.

The Hawks (12-18, 7-8 MEAC) clinched the No. 4 seed in the northern division last weekend by virtue of a loss by Delaware State against Morgan State. N.C. A&T is the No. 1 seed in the southern division.

This will be the second year in a row that Eastern Shore faces North Carolina A&T in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament. The Aggies were victorious in the tournament last year in five sets.

Friday's match will be the second time the Hawks and Aggies face off this season. N.C. A&T won an epic five-set match in Greensboro back on Oct. 18. Second team All-MEAC performer Tatjana Trifkovic (Belgrade, Serbia) was tied with sophomore Alexis Lee (Wilmington, Delaware) for the team-high in kills in the match with 15. The Aggies were led by MEAC co-player of the year Edie Brewer's 12 kills, 26 assists and 13 digs.

The winner of the Maryland Eastern Shore-North Carolina A&T match will face the winner of Morgan State and Bethune-Cookman's match. The Hawks have victories over both of those teams this season. They defeated BCU in four sets on Oct. 27 in their only matchup and split with MSU in two matches with their victory coming on Nov. 15 in four sets.
